Word FAQ: Customizing Toolbars

You can add or delete icons from any toolbar to suit your particular needs. The following are simple directions for deleting, adding and moving icons on your toolbar.

To delete an icon

  1. Press and hold the ALT key
  2. Left-Click on the icon you wish to delete
  3. Drag the icon into the main area of the screen where the presentation is located, rather than to another toolbar
  4. Release the left mouse button and ALT key

To add an icon

  1. Right-click on the toolbar where you want to add a button
  2. Select Customize from the pop-up menu
  3. Display the Commands tab
  4. In the Commands box, find the icon you want to add by choosing the category it belongs to
  5. Drag the icon to an existing toolbar

To move an icon

  1. Point the mouse to the icon you wish to move
  2. Press and hold the ALT key
  3. Left-Click on icon, and drag the icon to the new position on the toolbar
  4. Release the left mouse button
